History

CNF Medical is the result of four decades of innovation. Our parent company, Carolina Narrow Fabric, has been manufacturing narrow textiles used in the medical, industrial, military and aerospace markets since 1929. In the 1960s, CNF patented Form I Glass, a raschel knitted fiberglass substrate that evolved into fiberglass cast tape. This began a medical revolution that sparked five decades of progressive partnerships.

In the 1970s, in a strategic partnership, CNF developed a fiberglass cast and manufactured the substrate. In yet another partnership, CNF developed a new option of a fiberglass cast tape for the medical market. The product was an overwhelming success.

In the 1980s, CNF played a major role in the development of conforming cast tapes and printed cast tapes. CNF eventually sold the rights to this technology. The company that bought those rights then worked with CNF to develop their cast padding and stockinette, which were manufactured at CNF’s headquarters in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Through the years, CNF has worked with a variety of international companies to create and produce innovative medical supplies. And in 2006, after four decades of manufacturing cast room products, CNF started its own medical division: CNF Medical.

In 2015, CNF Medical attained a prestigious ISO 13485 rating.

In 2016 CNF was certified as a Small Business Association HUBZone business.
